Course Overview
Short rows are a way to add shaping to a project without the use of increasing or decreasing stitches! This Butterfly Cowl workshop is the perfect introduction to short row knitting! This class meets in-person at the shop. But I am working on a Zoom version...stay tuned!
The class project is the Butterfly Cowl, a pattern by Marin J. Melchoir. I've selected the luxurious extrafine 16 micron merino wool yarns from Urth. Rare 16 is the gradient dyed main color yarn and 16 Fingering is the complementary contrast color yarn. Choose from the combinations we've put together or create your own with one 50 gram skein of each yarn.
I knit the shop sample using US #3 needles in the Rare 11526 + G10 combo. I had enough yarn to make 2 cowls that will be completely different due to the gradient dye of the Rare 16. The class fee includes the yarn, pattern, and instruction!
After completing this cowl, you may want to push your skills and knit the famous Butterfly Shawl!
Skills Required
You should be experienced with knitting a triangular shawl, including basic techniques for increasing and decreasing stitches.
You will need to bring the following Materials/Supplies to the class:
The class fee includes instruction and the Butterfly Cowl kit and pattern. You will receive a 20% discount for any additional class supplies. Please pick out your yarn in advance and have it wound and ready to go at the class meeting. We're happy to wind your yarn for you in advance of the class.
- Yarn to knit your Butterfly Cowl
- US 02 or 03 needles depending on your gauge (I started with the single point needles and then transitioned to 24" needles when I needed to join in the round.)
- Stitch Markers
Cancellation Policy
Full payment is needed to reserve your space. For a full refund on the class, cancellations must be made 5 days before the class. All refunds are given as store credit only. If we cancel the class for any reason or we are able to fill your slot, you will receive a full refund.
